About Me

Memoirist, poet, tattooed dragon girl, extreme nanny, Burning Man aficionado,  juggler of monkeys, Jill of all trades,  stick shift driving, mischievous, restored to sanity, sort of, Mid-West transplant living in the Outer Richmond District of San Francisco.  Yes, it is foggy.

My blog is about my experiences “growing up” from the ripe age of 29, when I moved to San Francisco, to my present age, just on the cusp of 46 (my birthday’s next month, I want a hot air balloon trip in case you’re wondering), as filtered through the lens of a displaced “farm girl” who grew up in Wisconsin–think tattooed Mission bicyclist that got side swiped by a polite country girl who can cook–and you may get an idea of what is up.  My blog is polite yet nonconformist.

The blog began as an exercise to push myself to finish my first memoir, Baby Girl, and it became another monster entirely.  I write daily, it is stream of conscious and I never know exactly what is going to come out.

It has grown and evolved just like me.

It has also changed as I have recently graduated with a Masters Degree in Psychology and am no actively pursuing my PhD, sure, what’s another five years of school?

These are my adventures, here, moment to moment, learning to live and be, one day at a time, my fullest self, with all of my heart very much on my sleeve.

I love your blog especially the parts about nannying at Burning Man – it gives me hope that one day I could attend with kids. Also I thought I’d share a food tip in case you or anyone you know can make use of it: pre-prepared gourmet organic quality meals in that you boil in a bag! Specifically designed for BM: https://bitly.com/kvHKNN This year I am lucky to have a friend in SF that can pick up a coolerull for me – I know the founder personally (long time burner and all around awesome woman) and have tried her food – but haven’t been able to try Playa Provisions yet.

I’m an Auntie Bubba too! Just curious as to how you got your name. I’m theauntbubba.wordpress.com. 🙂

My little sister’s first word was baba for bottle and it became bubba for me. When my oldest niece was born my sister handed her over to me and said, “meet your Auntie Bubba,” and it stuck. For good or for evil.

Your youngest niece’s first word was cracker and her second was Cicely. I am hiding in the bathroom listening to her singing at the top of her lungs…reading your blogs. You would like her.
        Miss you.

Dec 26, ’11 Tangerine Dream poem….any idea who authored that? It was in a techno song many years ago but the only search for the song turned up on your post.

Oh my god! Mildred! She was my hero. Still is. Please email me? I’ve been searching for her. I live in Ireland now, so it’s tough..
